Theobald “Theo” Lengyel, aged 54, faced arrest and first-degree murder charges on Tuesday regarding the passing of 61-year-old Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann.

Herrmann’s relatives raised concerns about her absence on December 12, having received no communication from her for more than a week.

Herrmann was most recently seen on December 3 in Santa Cruz, California, and was an active member of Outrigger Santa Cruz, a competitive canoe paddling collective. The group communicated her presence at the practice session held on December 3, as indicated in a post on the organization’s Facebook page.

Capitola law enforcement officials have informed the public about the finding of human remains in a wooded area situated within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. The formal recognition of the uncovered remains is pending verification through DNA examination conducted by the coroner’s office, as per information from law enforcement sources.

 

The authorities in El Cerrito discovered her vehicle parked in close proximity to Lengyel’s residence.

Law enforcement swiftly identified Lengyel as a figure of interest in the vanishing of Herrmann, asserting that he declined to collaborate with the inquiry.

“As the inquiry advanced, it became apparent that illicit activities were at play, culminating in the pinpointing of Theobald Lengyel as a suspect,” conveyed the Capitola Police Department in an official statement.

 

DNA analysis by the coroner’s office

Capitola law enforcement reported the discovery of human remains in a forested region located within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. The official acknowledgment of the discovered remains awaits confirmation through DNA analysis by the coroner’s office, according to police sources.

Lengyel was taken into custody by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office without any untoward incident and subsequently registered at the Santa Cruz County Jail.

 

As per online jail records examined by Fox News Digital, Lengyel was being detained with no bail set.

Herrmann, a neuroscientist holding a degree from Caltech, as per KTVU reports.
